 Synopsis:

Pain shoots through my head. Fireworks. Explosions. All inside my brain. The white world goes dark and I know what’s about to happen.

Zara White suspects there’s a freaky guy semi-stalking her. She’s also obsessed with phobias. And it’s true, she hasn’t exactly been herself since her stepfather died. But exiling her to shivery Maine to live with her grandmother? That seems a bit extreme. The move is supposed to help her stay sane…but Zara’s pretty sure her mom just can’t deal with her right now.

She couldn’t be more wrong. Turns out the semi-stalker is not a figment of Zara’s overactive imagination. In fact, he’s still following her, leaving behind an eerie trail of gold dust. There’s something not right – not human – in this sleepy Maine town, and all signs point to Zara.

In this creepy, compelling breakout novel, Carrie Jones delivers romance, suspense, and a creature you never thought you’d have to fear.

Favorite Quote

“There is something about libraries, old libraries, that makes them seem almost sacred. There’s a smell of paper and must and binding stuff. It’s like all the books are fighting against decay, against turning into dust, and at the same time fighting for attention.”

Thoughts

If you’ve been reading my blog posts and have noticed I’ve been reading this, you may know that I read this book in 2012 and enjoyed it. I read books 1-3. I was hooked. I was excited about the 4th book! Then as time went on, I forgot about the book. I forgot about the series. I recently remembered and decided to buy the 4th book; thus I’m rereading it to remember what happened and to finish the series!

I loved this book in 2012. I enjoyed it just as much in 2016. I love books about faeries and pixies. This book is hilarious and fun. I loved the story and the characters. Not much happens, but the characters keep it light and interesting. SO MUCH SARCASM.

First, let’s talk about the characters, shall we? Grandma Betty is by far my favorite character in this book. She’s hilarious. Want some proof? Look no more. Here are some of my favorite quotes by her:

You look like a model with the fan blowing you hair so your look suitably sexy.”

and another one

Ha. Good one. I saw you two tonsil surfing out there.”

okay, one more

You lovebirds just sit on the couch and think swooning things at each other.”

Devyn and Issie and Nick were also so precious. They’re great, fantastic, side characters. They each add something different to the story. A little flare, if you will. Plus, the main character, Zara has so much humor and sarcasm. She doesn’t need a man to save herself. She wants to be able to save her own damn self and I respect that.

This book may not have the best world building. There’s a lot of description and explaining in the first book. However, I still highly recommend it. It’s a fantastic book. It would be great to read in the Winter because this book has so. much. snow. (:
