 Synopsis:

Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.

There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution: a teen boy with the username FrozenRobot (aka Roman) who’s haunted by a family tragedy is looking for a partner.

Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together. Except that Roman may not be so easy to convince

Favorite Quote

“Depression is like a heaviness that you can’t ever escape. It crushes down on you, making even the smallest things like tying your shoes or chewing on toast seem like a twenty-mile hike uphill. Depression is a part of you; it’s in your bones and your blood.”

Thoughts

I’m not sure I can really form my thoughts about this book. I really enjoyed it. I loved the plot and the feeling of hope I got while reading it. However, the plot and characters seemed really dull for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters at all. The characters seemed flat and boring with no real personality. They were both impossible to figure out.

I loved the idea of the story. It was unique. Not something I would have thought of. The ending happened too fast and nothing was really resolved. It felt like “hey these characters are super depressed and want to die” then boom all was well again and nothing hurt. Like what even? I have too many unanswered questions. What happened to the characters? What happens to the families? WHAT HAPPENS!? I need answers. None were answered. 😦

I was hoping for something more…  I think I only underlined like 1-2 quotes in this whole book. It didn’t speak to me or inspire me and that was a huge let down. I think I was just expecting more from this story and the characters. However, I still enjoyed the story nonetheless. I ended up like Aysel towards to ending.

  1. Aw, that sucks. Not being able to connect with the characters in any way possible is definitely a letdown. Glad you enjoyed the ideas that were spread throughout the book though! 🙂
